If you think someone may have overdosed on opiates, call 911 and use Narcan.
If the problem was not caused by opiates, the Narcan will not hurt.
Narcan is a medication that can be delivered to reverse an opioid related overdose. When using narcan, breathing can be restored within minutes. Narcan has no effect on reversing overdoses unrelated to opioids. To learn more about narcan and Act 139 (The Good Samaritan Clause) click Learn More.
Narcan is available by prescription at most pharmacies. Your primary care doctor can provide you with the prescription OR the PA Physician General as issued a standing order for all PA residents. If you do not want to obtain the prescription from your doctor, click Learn More to print of the standing order to take to your pharmacy. Narcan is covered by commercial insurances and medical assistance (Medicaid).
